During the first half alone, Real Madrid saw themselves score four goals, including a hat-trick by Christiano Ronaldo within merely eight minutes. This put him up to par with Lionel Messi as both have achieved a total of 24 hat-tricks in their professional football careers. The former player of the year scored two more in the second half.
This marked the first time ever where Ronaldo has scored five goals in a single game.
The first goal which started this rapid fireworks display was taken by Gareth Bale in the 24th minute. Benzema took two back to back goals in the second half and Diego Mainz from Granada FC popped in an own goal.
This stunning performance placed them second on the table, one point behind rivals Barcelona who are yet to play a game. Atlético Madrid on the other hand, in third place, are hoping to topple Real from their current position.
Real Madrid haven’t produced a goal difference this high in a La Liga win since their fixture against Real Sociedad in September 1967.
